As the dust clears on an unforgettable penalty kick shootout that decided the Orlando City SC-New York City FC Audi 2020 MLS Cup Playoffs Round One match Saturday, it has been confirmed that the game's officiating crew led by referee Allen Chapman will not work another playoff game this season.
As first reported by Dr. Joe Machnik on the FS1 broadcast of the San Jose Earthquakes-Sporting Kansas City match following a conversation with Howard Webb the general manager of Professional Referee Organization, Chapman and his crew correctly applied the rule as it applied to Pedro Gallese’s sending off and he disallowing of backup Brian Rowe to substitute in, but there was confusion at multiple moments during a shootout that took nearly 22 minutes to complete.
