The company Prodigal LLC, behind the USL PRO franchise recently awarded to Oklahoma City, have made the first steps toward designing and building the club a soccer-specific stadium, according to a Tuesday story by News OK.
The Oklahoma City club, still without an official team name, is set to begin play in USL PRO in Spring 2014 and will play at least its first season at a temporary home stadium still to be determined.
Prodigal announced they have partnered with local design firm ADG, Inc. — designers of the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, home of AAA baseball team Oklahoma City Redhawks — to design and build the stadium. The first verson of the stadium would seat 7,000 people and include the capability to expand into the 20,000-seat range. When soccer teams in America talk about building a 20,000-seat stadium, that can mean only one thing.
The News OK story goes on to quote Prodigal CEO Bob Funk Jr., saying, "We look forward to working with ADG to design a stadium that can serve the needs of our USL PRO team, and also expand based on our long-term goal of bringing an MLS team to Oklahoma City.”
