Orlando City SC striker Daryl Dike has been voted the MLS Player of the Month for August by members of the media, the league announced Wednesday morning.
Dike had three goals and two assists in five matches in August, his five points tied for most in the month.
In his first MLS start, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 road loss to Inter Miami CF on August 22.
The 20-year-old then helped lead the Lions to a 3-1 win over Nashville SC at Exploria Stadium four days later with his first career brace. He scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute, finishing a breakaway pass from Mauricio Pereyra with a right-footed shot into the top corner.
Dike added an insurance goal 20 minutes later when he recovered a saved shot attempt and finished with a right-footed strike from close range.
Dike closed out the month with another assist, setting up Chris Mueller’s 35th-minute goal in Orlando’s first-ever win over Atlanta United, a 3-1 victory at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on August 29.
MLS Player of the Month is voted upon by a panel of select national media members in a process conducted by MLS Communications.
