Orlando City SC have received a transfer offer for forward Daryl Dike, a source confirmed to MLSsoccer.com.
BBC Sport originally reported the offer was for $10 million from a "top six" Premier League club. Julia Poe of the Orlando Sentinel confirmed the figure and added the deal would have included a sell-on clause around 20%. The "top six" in England refers to Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham.
Dike, 20, is currently on loan in the English second tier with Barnsley, where he has been an instant success. He has three goals in eight appearances (512 minutes) as the club have gone undefeated since his debut (seven wins and a draw in eight games). They have climbed the table to sixth place, good for a place in the division's promotion playoffs.
The forward was among the league's breakout stars in 2020, with eight goals and four assists in 17 appearances for Orlando after being selected No. 5 overall in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft. He also made his debut for the US national team in January.
Dike's performances and interest in his services create doubt about him returning to Orlando at the end of his loan, though head coach Oscar Pareja has said something “extraordinary” would need to happen for him to not return.
Orlando's attacking reinforcements this winter have included Brazilian forward Alexandre Pato and winger Silvester van der Water.
