Orlando City star Kaká reiterates desire to remain in Orlando beyond 2017

Kaka - Orlando City SC - June 25, 2016

Kaká isn’t ready to leave MLS any time soon.

The Lions' superstar appeared in a pregame interview with Rob Stone and Alexi Lalas before Orlando City’s home tilt vs. the LA Galaxy on Saturday afternoon. Though he's currently injured, he reiterated his desire to remain in Orlando when his contract expires at the end of the year.

“This is my first option,” Kaká said. “I want to stay. I want to stay here in Orlando. We will see during the season and what’s gonna happen. But my first idea and my desire right now is to stay here.”

Kaka is currently in his third season with Orlando, scoring nine goals in each of his first two years. His 2017 campaign got off to a tough start when he exited the opener after just 11 minutes with a hamstring injury. But the Brazilian midfielder was optimistic about returning to the field, as soon as later this month.

“It’s much better,” he said of his hamstring. “Next week I’ll start training with the team. If everything goes well, I’ll probably be back the next weekend.”

Kaká noted that part of his desire to return quickly stems from his desire to possibly take the field against his former team, Real Madrid, the Spanish powerhouse that was announced Saturday as the opponent for the MLS All-Star Game.

“What a great experience for Real Madrid and MLS,” he said. “It will be a big event.”
