The MLS Latino del Año award has turned purple.
Orlando City SC's Salvadoran midfielder Darwin Ceren has upset a star-studded field of finalists to snare top honors in the 2015 race, outpolling his iconic teammate Kaká (Brazil) as well as FC Dallas' Colombian winger Fabian Castillo and Vancouver Whitecaps defender Kendall Waston (Costa Rica).
After joining the Lions during their USL days, the El Salvador national team captain notched two goals and two assists in 26 league matches (25 starts) in Orlando's debut MLS campaign.
Ceren also helped Los Cuscatlecos navigate the early rounds of CONCACAF World Cup qualifying to earn a spot in the semifinal stage, where the Salvadorans are matched up against Mexico, Honduras and Canada in Group A.
Final round results
Darwin Cerén (Orlando City SC): 52 percent
Kendall Waston (Vancouver Whitecaps): 40 percent
