Frantz Pangop scored his first Loons goal and club captain Francisco Calvo got to face his former club as Minnesota United hosted Deportivo Saprissa in an international friendly at TCF Bank Stadium on Wednesday, a late goal from Carlos Villegas earning the Costa Rican visitors a 2-1 win.
Saprissa’s David Ramirez sidestepped Loons goalkeeper Matt Lampson and finished into an empty net for the opening goal against a reserve-heavy Minnesota lineup arrayed in a 3-5-2 formation. Pangop soon leveled the score with a low drive inside the right post, assisted by Mason Toye.
Villegas found the winner in the 85th minute, running on to a through ball and dispatching the chance just before rainstorms gave the participants a late dousing. The Loons return to league action with a visit from Real Salt Lake on Saturday (8 pm ET | Full TV and streaming info).
