Philadelphia Union forward Cory Burke will not be joining the club for the upcoming MLS is Back Tournament, according to a Thursday report from Union insider and FOX Sports PHL Gambler reporter Joe Tansey.
Burke has been on loan with Austrian side St. Polten and has one more match before he would be eligible to return to MLS, but the clubs has confirmed that due to travel restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, Burke will not be able to rejoin the Union for the tournament.
"Due to current circumstances we are still working with the proper authorities to bring him to the United States," Union sporting director Ernst Tanner told Tansey through a team spokesperson."He is unable to join the team in Orlando since he will have missed the mandated quarantine and testing protocols."
Burke was originally loaned out to Jamaican side Portmore United in Sept. 2019 before joining St. Polten in 2020. He was initially expected to miss three months due to visa issues but has now been away from the Union for 14 months. The 28-year-old Jamaican international has scored four goals in 11 matches for St. Polten ahead of their final match.
