The Philadelphia Union acquired attacker David Accam from the Chicago Fire Friday in exchange for $1.2 million in combined Allocation Money in a signing anounced Friday at the 2018 MLS SuperDraft.

Philadelphia sent Chicago $300,000 in General Allocation Money and $900,000 in Targeted Allocation Money for Accam, who enjoyed his best MLS season in 2017, scoring 14 league goals and adding eight assists. But his campaign was always a bit overshadowed by 2017 MLS Golden Boot Winner Nemanja Nikolic's 24-goal season, as well as the arrival of German superstar Bastian Schweinsteiger.

With the Union, Accam will have the opportunity to be the focal point of an attack from the wing while still playing alongside a capable striker in CJ Sapong, who himself posted a career MLS season with 16 goals in 2017.

Meanwhile, a day after Chicago announced they'd re-signed Schweinsteiger for 2018, they now have more money to spend on other acquisitions. Fire GM Nelson Rodriguez told reporters Thursday in a conference call that the club had interest in an unnamed MLS free agent.
