It's been a good week for Borek Dockal.
Last Saturday, the Philadelphia Union playmaker and MLS assist leader helped his team clinch playoff qualification. On Monday, he was called up to the Czech national team and on Friday he was named captain. This Saturday, he repaid the faith put in him as he set up both goals for the Czech Republic to claim an important 2-1 victory on the road at neighboring Slovakia in the UEFA Nations League.
Dockal set up his team's first goal following a scoreless first half before they were pegged back just after the hour mark, setting the stage for Dockal to find his man with a cross from deep on the right side for the winner:
The win was the Czech Republic's first in two attempts in the Nations League. They will now travel to Ukraine on Oct. 16 for a game that could go a long way in deciding which team gets promoted to the top division of the Nations League.
Another MLS-based playmaker also found plenty of joy in Saturday's Nations League action, as San Jose's Vako scored the first two goals in Georgia's comfortable 3-0 win over visiting Andorra.
With the win, Georgia have built up a seven-point lead over the chasing pack and look well on their way to promotion to the third tier.
On Friday evening, four MLSers were involved as Peru ran away with a 3-0 win over fierce rivals Chile in a friendly played in Miami, Florida. Orlando midfielder Yoshi Yotun went the full 90 for Peru while Seattle ace Raul Ruidiaz also started and worked a quiet 85 minutes. Portland winger Andy Polo entered in the 76th minute and delivered the assist for Peru's final with a cutback for teammate Pedro Aquino.
Vancouver attacker Yordy Reyna also put in a five-minute cameo for La Blanquirroja, while NYCFC center back Alex Callens and Sporting KC midfielder Felipe Gutierrez were unused substitutes for Peru and Chile, respectively.
