Andy Polo scored just once at the MLS is Back Tournament, but what a goal it was.
The Portland Timbers midfielder’s goal of the competition won the MLS is Back Goal of the Tournament presented by AT&T 5G, MLS announced Friday.
Polo’s curling 76th-minute strike put the finishing touches on the Timbers’ 3-1 quarterfinal win over NYCFC (you can watch above).
The sequence began when Polo received the ball making an overlapping run on the left flank, before carrying the ball to a few yards out from the corner of the penalty area. Cutting inside to evade a defender, Polo then hammered a curling strike that sailed inside the far post, just over the despairing dive of NYCFC goalkeeper Sean Johnson.
The winning goal of the tournament was determined via fan voting from eight nominees on MLSsoccer.com. You can watch all the nominated goals below.
Polo’s award comes on the heels of teammate Sebastian Blanco capturing Player of the Tournament presented by adidas Thursday.
