The Portland Timbers midfield duo of Diego and Yimmi Chara put that sibling connection on display in Portland's match against the San Jose Earthquakes on Wednesday, combining for their team's opening goal in the first half.
It happened in the 34th minute when Diego sent in a pass for his brother from midfield that Yimmi collected and turned past defender Paul Marie, creating a breakaway on San Jose goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski. The younger Chara made no mistake with the finish, chipping home the game's first goal. The Charas become the sixth sibling duo in league history to combine for a goal, and the first since the Seattle Sounders' Cristian and Alex Roldan managed the feat on April 15, 2018. Diego has been in the league for a long time, but that's surely one of the proudest MLS moments in his illustrious career. It was also Yimmi's first MLS goal, so the Timbers will hope there's more where that came from, regardless of whether or not his big bro is the one facilitating.
