A side-winding volley that’s picked out of midair and finds the far top corner? Yeah, that’ll win you AT&T Goal of the Week.
That applies, of course, to Portland Timbers midfielder Andy Polo after his Week 21 strike in a 5-2 thumping of the LA Galaxy, which kept them chasing first place in the Western Conference standings. Polo’s goal took home a resounding 60.60% of the vote, nearly tripling up the closest challenger.
Second place went to Orlando City SC winger Chris Mueller for his curling free kick in a 4-1 beatdown of Southeast rivals Atlanta United. Mueller earned 24.18% of the vote as his career year (9g, 6a) continues.
Seattle Sounders maestro Nicolas Lodeiro slotted into third place (10.88% of the vote), with his sweeping effort set up by a pinpoint Raul Ruidiaz turn. The Uruguayan midfielder had a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win over Vancouver.
Down in single digits, Minnesota United FC midfielder Robin Lod (3.60% of the vote) missed the medal stand in fourth place and Inter Miami CF midfielder Rodolfo Pizarro (0.75% of the vote) brought up the rear in fifth place. Lod's was a nice curler from outside the 18-yard box, and Pizarro capped off a delicate pass from Gonzalo Higuain.
