RBNY's Bradley Wright-Phillips voted Alcatel Player of the Week for Week 12

Bradley Wright-Phillips Alcatel Player of the Week 12

He led the New York Red Bulls to an impressive 3-1 road victory over the league leaders, scoring two goals and earning the penalty kick that led to another, and for that heroic outing Bradley Wright-Phillips was voted the Alcatel MLS Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for Week 12.

BWP was instrumental in RBNY’s steely, come-from-behind defeat of Atlanta United at Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, netting two well-placed headers after drawing the foul that led to Daniel Royer’s equalizing PK.

Wright-Phillips’ first came from an angled redirection of a Michael Murillo cross from the right flank, his second thumped with power off the underside of the crossbar via a pinpoint delivery from Alejandro Romero “Kaku” Gamarra. It was the 20th multi-goal performance of his MLS career.

The Englishman is now tied for the MLS Golden Boot lead with eight goals scored in 10 matches played, while his five assists are tied for fifth in the league. The Red Bulls now sit in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with 21 points from a 7-3-0 record.

RBNY return to action on Saturday, when they host the Philadelphia Union at Red Bull Arena (7 pm ET | ESPN+ - Full TV and streaming info).

The Alcatel MLS Player of the Week is chosen each week of the regular season by members of the North American Soccer Reporters. The organization includes print, television, radio and online journalists who cover domestic men's soccer in the United States and Canada.
