TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Transfer
Real Salt Lake have transferred attacking midfielder Fidel Barajas to Liga MX side Chivas Guadalajara, the club announced Tuesday.
The highly-touted Mexican youth international departs for a reported $4 million-plus transfer fee and a sell-on fee.
In January, RSL acquired the 18-year-old from USL Championship side Charleston Battery. He tallied 0g/2a in 17 regular-season matches (five starts).
"We wish nothing but the best to Fidel; he’s grown a lot with us on and off the field during his six months here," chief soccer officer Kurt Schmid said in a release. "It is difficult to let young prospects go, but the global market offers clubs and individuals numerous opportunities for change and growth.
"Fidel represented both himself and RSL as a model young professional each and every day here, and we believe we have provided him a foundation as he adapts to both Liga MX and his youth national team career."
Before joining Charleston, Barajas was part of the youth academies for both Sacramento Republic and the San Jose Earthquakes. He was named the 2023 USL Championship Young Player of the Year.
Barajas was a key player for Mexico at the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup after they won the 2023 Concacaf U-17 Championship.
