TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
Austin FC are set to sign Talleres midfielder Tomas Pochettino, per a Monday evening report from respected Argentina-based journalist Cesar Luis Merlo.
Pochettino came through the Boca Juniors youth system, though made just one appearance with the storied Argentine Primera Division club. The 24-year-old has been at Talleres since 2018, first on loan and then permanently, and has six goals and 10 assists through 60 matches for the club.
Pochettino has also spent time on loan at Defensa y Justicia, emerging as a creative midfielder who can play in several different roles. While at Talleres, he's supplied one goal and two assists in four Copa Libertadores matches and enjoyed great success in the Copa Diego Armando Maradona.
Austin FC, an MLS expansion team for 2021, have already turned to South America when landing forward Cecilio Dominguez on a Designated Player deal. The Paraguay international forward was last at Independiente in Argentina, then spent the in-between period on loan at Paraguay's Club Guarani.
Club Guarani was also the previous destination for winger Rodney Reydes and center back Jhohan Romana, though Austin FC have built much of their 2021 roster to-date through domestic mechanisms.
