Austin FC are looking to sign Slovenian youth international defender Zan Kolmanic from NK Maribor, according to a report in sports daily Ekipa SN.
Kolmanic, who turns 21 in early March, has featured in 44 games for NK Maribor after making his debut in 2017. NK Maribor are the most successful club in the Slovenian PrvaLiga and participated in Europa League qualifiers earlier this season.
Kolmanic has played for Slovenia’s U-21 national team, too, after becoming a mainstay at younger age groups. Should Kolmanic come to MLS, he’d join compatriots like Chicago Fire FC forward Robert Beric and CF Montréal center back Kiki Struna in the league.
Austin FC, who are nearing their MLS debut as an expansion club, currently have Ben Sweat as their primary option at left back. Nick Lima and Hector Jimenez are their other outside backs.
