Report: Carlos Carmona declines Colo Colo advances to remain with Atlanta

Carlos Carmona - Atlanta United

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Update:December 31, 2017

Turns out Carlos Carmona may not be going anywhere after all.

A December 24 report by Chile's AS had indicated that storied Chilean side Colo Colo was preparing a transfer bid for the experienced Atlanta United central midfielder.

But another Chilean outlet, La Tercera, has reported that the player has declined the advances from his native country, pointing to an extension of his stay with the MLS club. Carmona was among the names confirmed by ATLUTD to be under contract for 2018.

The Chilean international arrived in MLS ahead of the 2017 season after a long spell in Italy. He started his career in Chile with Coquimbo Unido and O'Higgins before moving to Europe.

The 30-year-old was an unsung hero for Atlanta in 2017, playing 31 games (30 starts) in his box-to-box midfielder role for head coach Tata Martino. He will face a battle for his place in the starting XI if he returns with the addition of US national team midfielder Darlington Nagbe.
