TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
At the beginning of December reports of a possible trade involving Gyasi Zardes emerged. On Sunday, another shoe dropped regarding the future of the LA Galaxy's Homegrown US international.
The Washington Post's Steven Goff took to Twitter to reveal that Columbus Crew SC are a leading contender to seal a deal to acquire Zardes:
As you can see, this is a conditional revelation; nothing is clinched yet and the bottle-blonde striker could well wind up going elsewhere, or perhaps not be traded at all. Previous reports have also linked him to D.C. United and Vancouver, though the Whitecaps' acquisition of Kei Kamara over the weekend may reduce the odds of that being a destination.
Zardes, 26, recently completed his fifth season in MLS, all with the Galaxy. This year marked his most difficult season of his career after recovering from a foot injury that had prematurely ended his 2016 campaign.
One he got clearance to play again, Zardes struggled in an attack that was missing Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane, and scored just two goals and two assists in his customary striker position.
Late in the 2017 season, coach Sigi Schmid experimented with Zardes, playing him at right back when injuries left LA lacking options at that position. Schmid had taken over the Galaxy after Curt Onalfo was fired midseason,
