TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report
A couple of weeks after Columbus Crew SC reportedly got a big offer from Bristol City for goalkeeper Zack Steffen, another European team is knocking on their door.
On Tuesday, The Athletic’s Paul Tenorio reported that Crew SC received a $1.25 million offer from the Blackburn Rovers for Wil Trapp but are unlikely to accept something much lower than $3 million for their captain.
Columbus head coach Gregg Berhalter confirmed the interest from the English Championship side, telling The Athletic: “There was an offer made and we’ll consider offers. But we have a certain valuation for our players, and if these valuations are not met, there’s not going to be an agreement.”
Trapp has spent his whole career in Columbus, playing in 146 games since signing as a Homegrown player ahead of the 2013 season.
Most recently, the 25-year-old helped Crew SC to back-to-back 3-2 wins over Orlando City SC and the New York Red Bulls, scoring a stunning winner in stoppage time over the Lions on July 21 that won AT&T Goal of the Week honors and had his coach and teammates lauding his ability and leadership. It was just the second career goal for the deep-lying midfielder.
After an idle weekend, Trapp and Columbus, currently in fourth place in the East, host the Houston Dynamo on Saturday (7:30 pm ET | TV & streaming Info).
