UPDATE: Yashin Quesada reported on Wednesday that Salvatierra has elected to re-sign with Alajuelense on a three-year deal, citing his desire for stability ahead of the final push for a spot on Costa Rica's 2018 World Cup squad. However, it's noteworthy that the update reports that he and agent Kurt Morsink have inserted a "rescission clause" into the contract should he desire to move abroad in the future.
TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Report
Costa Rican international and LD Alajuelense captain Jose Salvatierra is deliberating between offers from MLS clubs or a return to his domestic league, reports Costa Rican outlet Yashin Quesada.
A year ago, Salvatierra agreed to a move to FC Dallas, but a failed physical precipitated a return to Costa Rica's top flight.
The 28-year-old outside back is currently out of contract with the 29-time Costa Rican champions. His reported interest in MLS follows a growing trend of Costa Rican internationals finding a home in the US or Canada.
Take September's shock 2-0 World Cup qualifying upset over the US national team at Red Bull Arena. Seven MLS-based players featured on Ticos manager Oscar Ramirez's 23-man roster, including Marco Urena, whose brace dealt what may have been the death blow to the US's qualifying chances.
With Ulises Segura signing a deal with D.C. United this month and New York City's Ronald Matarrita returning from a broken foot at the end of this season, as many as 10 MLSers could represent the Ticos in Russia next summer if Salvatierra moves to MLS.
