The New York Red Bulls are reportedly set to send striker Anatole Abang out on loan, with Metro New York's Kristian Dyer reporting on Tuesday that the club will loan the Cameroonian international to a Danish team for one year.
Dyer reported that the deal will not include an option to buy Abang’s rights outright.
Abang, 20, showed some promise during his first year with the Red Bulls in 2015, recording four goals and one assist in 17 regular season matches and adding another goal in two postseason appearances. He’s failed to build on those numbers this year, failing to register a goal or assist in just eight MLS games.
Abang hasn’t played in the Red Bulls last eight games across all competitions, and didn’t even make the bench for a pair of recent CONCACAF Champions League matches in which New York played a significant number of regular reserves. He does have four goals in eight USL appearances with New York Red Bulls II this season.
Abang has one career cap with the Cameroonian national team, playing 20 minutes off the bench in a 3-2 loss at France in a friendly in May.
The Red Bulls recently added a high-profile forward, acquiring Omer Damari as a Designated Player on loan from sister club RB Leipzig earlier this month. Damari scored in his second Red Bulls appearance on Tuesday night, tapping home a late equalizer in New York’s 1-1 CCL draw at Salvadoran club Alianza.
