The Colorado Rapids' head coach search could soon come to a close, according to a report from Kristian Dyer at ESPN.
Dyer writes that Robin Fraser, currently an assistant coach at Toronto FC, is a front-runner for the gig that’s currently manned by interim head coach Conor Casey. The Rapids, still rock-bottom of the Western Conference standings with eight points through 13 matches, have won their last two games under Casey’s guidance.
The job opened up May 1 when Anthony Hudson was relieved of his duties as Rapids head coach with an 8-26-9 overall record. The club hasn’t made the playoffs since the 2016 season.
Fraser, 52, previously served as head coach of Chivas USA for two seasons before they were dissolved in 2014. He also has assistant coaching stops at Real Salt Lake and New York Red Bulls, though he has been with TFC since 2015. Those various stops have included two MLS Cup titles (‘09 with RSL, ‘17 with TFC) and three Supporters’ Shields (‘10 with RSL, ‘13 with RBNY, ‘17 with TFC).
During his playing days, Fraser was capped 28 times by the US national team. A defender, he also made 145 appearances in MLS across the regular season and playoffs, including 35 for the Rapids.
