David Bingham’s breakout 2015 season for the San Jose Earthquakes could be rewarded by a US national team call-up, according to ESPN FC’s Doug McIntyre.
Bingham, 26, was drafted by the Quakes in 2011 on a Generation Adidas contract but playing time was initially hard to find for the former University of California standout.
In Bingham’s first three years with the club, he only played five matches in goal. But after two loan stints in 2014, spending time with both the NASL’s San Antonio Scorpions and Norwegian club Strømmen IF, Bingham finally got his opportunity this past season. He started all 34 games for San Jose, making 105 saves and recording 12 shutouts.
U.S. soccer has yet to confirm McIntyre’s news, but if it is true, he’ll join a goalkeeper group that features D.C. United’s Bill Hamid and the New York Red Bulls' Luis Robles.
Bingham has never played for the US at any level.
