Yamil Asad - D.C. United - celebrates his goal vs. Orlando City

TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Report

Could D.C. United's long-running pursuit of a Yamil Asad return finally be nearing fruition?

That’s a very real possibility, according to The Washington Post's Steven Goff, who reported Wednesday night that D.C. have “grown increasingly confident in striking a deal” for the Argentinean winger in time for him to join the squad ahead of MLS’s roster freeze deadline on Friday.

Asad, 25, scored nine goals and eight assists for United on loan last season, including the first goal in Audi Field history.

The Black-and-Red were unable to agree terms on a permanent transfer from Velez Sarsfield, however, and he returned to the Argentine club over the winter.

He found playing time there scarce, however, and it appears he’s close to a D.C. return as a free agent after parting ways with Velez. Asad initially arrived in MLS as a loan acquisition by Atlanta United for their 2017 expansion debut campaign, where he contributed seven goals and 13 assists for the Five Stripes.
