The Houston Dynamo are working to keep talented Honduran attacker Alberth Elis according to reports, one of which has them paying a $2.5 million transfer fee to Liga MX's CF Monterrey.

Honduran journalist Julio Cesar Cruz is saying the deal has been finalized. Meanwhile, Houston Chronicle soccer writer Corey Roepken reports the Dynamo are optimistic a deal will happen, though it's not yet final.

The Dynamo reached the playoffs for the first time in four seasons in 2017, and Elis was a key reason why. The 21-year-old scored 10 league goals and added four assists after arriving from Monterrey on loan before the season.

He finished tied for second on the team with Mauro Manotas, behind Erick Cubo Torres' 14 goals. While those strikers generally occupy the same central role, Elis has demonstrated the ability to play centrally or on either flank for coach Wilmer Cabrera.

The Dynamo already announced Thursday they had picked up the transfer option for holding midfielder Juan David Cabezas.
