The frustration is mounting for the New England Revolution as the search for the first win of the 2019 season extends into Week 5.
The Revs were listless in a 2-0 defeat to FC Cincinnati, an expansion team missing five players to the international break, and heard boos from their frustrated fans at both the halftime and fulltime whistles.
“We were not ready from minute one to compete with these guys. They won all the second balls,” center back Antonio Delameatold RevolutionSoccer.net's Jeff Lemieux. “Today, what we gave out there was not nearly 50 percent … It’s tough times for us, and we need to do much, much better.”
At what used to be a fortress, the Revs have suffered consecutive 2-0 defeats in their first two games at Gillette Stadium this season. Sunday's setback was painful enough to prompt a public apology from club president Brian Bilello.
“The two halves were completely different,” head coach Brad Friedel said. “You had one half that we probably had five or six players that lacked any kind of desire to work. It’s as simple as that.”
The Revs, now 3-12-5 in their last 20 games, will look to try and turn things around against Minnesota United at home on Saturday (2 pm ET | MLS LIVE on ESPN+ in US, on DAZN in Canada), but the Loons already have a pair of road wins this year.
