RSL Foundation makes donation to Utah Food Bank to help those impacted by COVID-19

The RSL Foundation is making a donation to the Utah Food Bank this Thursday, after partnering with Rio Tinto Stadium and Levy to help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The donation will include food intended for Real Salt Lake matches that have since been postponed, with the RSL Foundation also donating $5,000 to the Utah Food Bank. The entire donation comes out to $38,300 in goods and services.

“In this difficult time that everyone is facing, we wanted to take the opportunity to help those in need,” said RSL foundation executive director Mary Van Minde in a statement. “In delivering food that may have gone to waste to the Utah Food Bank, the RSL Foundation aims not only to help people affected by the pandemic, but also create awareness for a giving opportunity right here in our community.”

On Tuesday, the RSL Foundation also teamed up with Real Food Services to make a food donation from Zions Bank Stadium with food left over from Monarchs games that were postponed. Last year, the Monarchs won the USL Championship title.

The suspension of the 2020 MLS season has been extended, with a target return date of May 10. The USL Championship season has also been pushed back to that date, with both leagues taking guidance from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to cancel all mass gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks.

Rio Tinto Stadium is also home to the NWSL’s Utah Royals FC, though their home opener is set for April 24 against Orlando Pride.
