UPDATE, WEDNESDAY, 9:45 AM ET: FC Dallas technical director Andre Zanotta has denied there's been ongoing talks about a potential move to loan Pablo Aranguiz. "We saw the reports too. It's news to us," he told the Dallas Morning News. "No one has contacted us about Pablo Aranguiz."
TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Rumor
FC Dallas signed midfielder Pablo Aranguiz to be their next exciting playmaker, but could the player be departing the club, at least temporarily?
Rumors out of Chile claim Aranguiz is a target of Universidad de Chile, as relayed by SB Nation's FC Dallas site Big D Soccer. The reports claim La U will be signing Aranguiz on loan.
The 21-year-old joined FC Dallas from Chilean club Union Española in July 2018. Brought in the hope he could step into the shoes of Mauro Diaz after the Argentine was sold earlier in the season, Aranguiz was inconsistent in his initial outings in MLS, as he didn't score a goal or assist in 282 MLS regular-season minutes last year.
While he was expected to play a bigger role in 2019, if he does go to Chile on loan, it appears Homegrown midfielder Paxton Pomykal would take over the playmaker mantle under new FCD head coach Luchi Gonzalez.
FC Dallas open the 2019 MLS regular season on March 2 at home against the New England Revolution.
