TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Signing
The Seattle Sounders have signed former Minnesota United midfielder Miguel Ibarra, the 2019 MLS Cup winners announced Thursday.
Ibarra spent the majority of the past eight years with the Loons, including the last three in MLS. The 29-year-old will immediately be eligible for Seattle's Concacaf Champions League round of 16 first leg at CD Olimpia on Thursday evening (10 pm ET | FS2, TUDN, TSN).
"We are excited to welcome an experienced and versatile player like Miguel to the squad," said GM & president of soccer Garth Lagerwey in a statement. "His skillset gives us another good option in the attack as we prepare to start the 2020 campaign."
Ibarra netted 11 goals and added 14 assists in 84 MLS appearances for Minnesota but had his contract option declined at the end of the 2019 season. He had recently been on trial with Seattle, evidently doing enough to impress coach Brian Schmetzer.
The California-native began his professional career with Minnesota in 2012 during the club's time in the NASL before he briefly departed for a short stint in Liga MX with Club Leon. He made history in 2014, when becoming the first lower-division player to be called up for the U.S. men's national team, making his debut against Honduras and going onto win two further caps.
