Six MLS academy products named to Concacaf Under-20 Championship Best XI

Mark McKenzie - US Under-20 national team - 2018 Concacaf Championship

Make that two victories for the USA over Mexico in the recently concluded 2018 Concacaf Under-20 championship: 2-0 on the field and 8-3 when it comes to Best XI selections.

After the US beat Mexico 2-0 in Wednesday's Under-20 Championship final, Concacaf's technical study group named its Best XI based on a 4-3-3 formation and the 11 names feature six MLS academy products, including three current MLS players.

Philadelphia Union starting center back Mark McKenzie (pictured above), 19-year-old FC Dallas midfielder Brandon Servania and Toronto FC forward Ayo Akinola were named alongside New York Red Bulls academy product Chris Gloster and former LA Galaxy academy duo Alex Mendez and Ulysses Llanez.

It's been a breakout season for McKenzie, who made 18 starts on the Philadelphia Union backline, including in the Knockout Round of the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs.

Meanwhile, the 18-year-old Akinola made four appearances for 2017 MLS Cup champions Toronto FC in the recently concluded MLS season, his first in the league after signing a Homegrown contract. The 2018 season with FC Dallas was also Servania's first, but he's yet to make his MLS debut.
