UPDATE (Nov. 27, 12:45 pm ET) – Dennis te Kloese has departed the LA Galaxy after three seasons as their general manager and will become CEO of Dutch side Feyenoord, as announced Saturday.
Te Kloese originally joined LA in December 2018, helping them reach the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs. They were led by Guillermo Barros Schelotto from 2019-20, then current head coach Gregg Vanney come onboard last offseason after previously steering Toronto FC to great heights.
“We would like to thank Dennis for his contributions to the club over the last three seasons,” Galaxy president Chris Klein said in a release. “We support his decision to go back home to the Netherlands to join Feyenoord and wish him the best in his next endeavor.”
Feyenoord occupies third place in the Eredivisie standings and competes in the Europa Conference League, where they top Group E.
“I am truly grateful and feel very proud to have served the LA Galaxy for the last three years,” Te Kloese said in a statement. “I would like to thank the fans, players, staff and everyone who always made me, and my family, feel at home and part of the Galaxy family.
“I will take with me some great memories and I have experienced some unforgettable moments over the last years. As I prepare for my new challenge in the Netherlands, I just wanted to say thank you and wish everybody the best of luck and great success moving forward.”
ORIGINAL (Nov. 23, 2 pm ET) – LA Galaxy general manager Dennis te Kloese will join Dutch club Feyenoord to lead their soccer operations, sources tell MLSsoccer.com.
Te Kloese, 47, originally joined the Galaxy in December 2018.
Feyenoord are considered part of the Netherlands’ “big three” alongside Ajax and PSV Eindhoven. The club currently sits third in the Eredivise campaign and atop their group in the UEFA Conference League. The Rotterdam-based club have won the league 15 times in their history, last in 2016-17, as well as the KNVB Cup 13 times. They once won the Champions League, back in 1970.
Te Kloese is Dutch but has spent the majority of his career in North America. He was named scouting director of Chivas in 2003 before becoming director of soccer for now-defunct MLS club Chivas USA from 2005-08. Te Kloese later worked with the Mexican soccer federation, where he served as director of Mexico’s youth national teams before being promoted to serving as director of all Mexico’s national teams before joining the Galaxy.
Under te Kloese’s guidance, the Galaxy hired Greg Vanney as head coach last offseason and embarked upon a roster upheaval that fast-tracked their rebuild. The club acquired the likes of Rayan Raveloson, Kevin Cabral, Samuel Grandsir, Dejan Joveljic and more this year.
The Galaxy still have club president Chris Klein and technical director Jovan Kirovski in their front office. LA are chasing an Audi MLS Cup Playoffs return after finishing eighth in the Western Conference standings in 2021.
