Stejskal: RSL not interested in trading Albert Rusnak, no NYCFC approach

Albert Rusnak - in action for Real Salt Lake

NYCFC head coach Patrick Vieira reportedly wants to bring his former Manchester City Elite Development Squad player Albert Rusnak to the Bronx, but Real Salt Lake have zero interest in trading their star midfielder.

ESPN reported Thursday that Vieira “is attempting to sign” the 23-year-old Designated Player, who joined RSL from Dutch club Gronigen last January and recorded seven goals and 14 assists in 30 appearances in his first season in MLS.

A source close to RSL told MLSsoccer.com shortly after ESPN’s report was published Thursday that the club hasn’t been approached by NYCFC for Rusnak and that they have no intention of trading the Slovakian international.

Rusnak played under Vieira for Manchester City’s Elite Development Squad, the club’s reserve team, in 2013. RSL will open the season on March 3 at FC Dallas (8 pm ET; MLS LIVE).
