Stoke manager: Injured Geoff Cameron unlikely to be named to US roster

Copa America - Geoff Cameron

The US national team could be without one of their most important players for next Friday’s huge clash against Mexico at MAPFRE Stadium.

According to Stoke City’s official Twitter account, Stoke manager Mark Hughes told media today that USMNT and Stoke defender Geoff Cameron is unlikely to play in Stoke’s match against Hull this weekend and that he likely won’t travel to join the US next week due to a knee injury.

Cameron has started seven of Stoke’s 10 English Premier League games this year, but missed their home win against Bob Bradley and Swansea on Monday due to injury. The 31-year-old center back started all six of the US’s World Cup qualifiers in the semifinal round of CONCACAF qualifying and all six of their matches at this summer’s Copa America Centenario.

The US will open the Hexagonal round of qualifying next Friday against Mexico in Columbus before playing at Costa Rica in a qualifier on Tuesday, Nov. 15.
