Team of the Matchday

Team of the Week (Wk 13): After scoring two goals each, Defoe, Morales, Brown make their mark

On the back of Jermain Defoe's two-goal effort, Toronto FC pulled out another win over Columbus after they were down late. Defoe's 81st-minute goal tied the game up while Doneil Henry's goal in stoppage time handed the Reds the 3-2 win.

Up in Cascadia, there were two star turns by two different playmakers. In Seattle, Marco Pappa got his first goal of the season off of a beautiful free kick. It looks as if the Guatemalan has found his form after a rough start to the season. South of Seattle, Pedro Morales put on a show against the Portland Timbers. The Chilean playmaker took 10 shots, converting two penalty kicks, and created five other chances in the Whitecaps' 4-3 win over Portland.

Who else earned a spot on the latest Team of the Week? Read on to find out.

Team of the Week (Wk 13): After scoring two goals each, Defoe, Morales, Brown make their mark -

GK: Jon Busch (San Jose Earthquakes) – Has very quietly been one of the league's best goalkeepers, and he was on point again on Saturday night against Dallas.

D: Bakary Soumare (Chicago Fire) – The veteran helped to slow down Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane after their explosion last weekend. The Fire were able to come away with a 1-1 draw.

D: Amobi Okugo (Philadelphia Union) – Nullified Chivas USA's attack, helping to allow just one shot on target in the Union's 3-0 win.

D: Jeff Parke (D.C. United) – His team was unable to keep possession after an early goal, forcing the veteran to make crucial plays in United's 1-0 victory..

D: Chris Klute (Colorado Rapids) – Normally known for his attacking forays, Klute was strong along the back line in Colorado's victory over the Dynamo on Sunday night..

M: Marco Pappa (Seattle Sounders) – Finally showing why he was able to make the move to Europe two years ago. Contributed a goal in the Sounders' 4-0 rout of RSL.

M: Pedro Morales (Vancouver Whitecaps) –Scored two goals and added two assists against Portland. The goals were penalties, but the pass to set up Jordan Harvey’s goal was remarkable and ended up being the game-winner.

M: Jean-Baptiste Pierazzi (San Jose Earthquakes) – Had a solid defensive game, and his 45th minute blast gave the Earthquakes the win.

M: Issey Nakajima-Farran (Montreal Impact) – What a great starting debut for a team in need of a spark. He was active all night, and his run past Andrew Farrell and ensuing long-range shot spurred the second Montreal goal.

F: Deshorn Brown (Colorado Rapids) – Two clinical finishes in the Rapids' 3-0 win. Was a good performance up top overall, making smart runs that led to other opportunities.

F: Jermain Defoe (Toronto FC) – Was his usual self, causing difficulties for the Crew back line all afternoon in Toronto's 3-2 comeback win.

Coach: Sigi Schmid (Seattle Sounders) - Became the first coach to beat RSL this season. Even without Clint Dempsey, his team put up four goals against RSL's stingy defense.

Bench:Jaime Penedo (LA Galaxy), Yannick Djalo (San Jose Earthquakes), Cristian Maidana (Philadelphia Union), Diego Valeri (Portland Timbers), Kamani Hill (Colorado Rapids), Erik Hurtado (Vancouver Whitecaps), Conor Casey (Philadelphia Union)
