Jesus Manuel "Tecatito" Corona isn’t one to be outdone.
The Mexico attacker answered Jose Manuel Velasquez’s golazo with a wonder-strike of his own late in El Tri’s match against Venezuela, weaving through the Vinotinto defense and firing home from just inside the penalty spot to make it 1-1 in the 80th minute.
The goal gave Mexico the top spot in Group C, allowing them to beat out second-place Venezuela – whom they finished tied with on seven points – by virtue of the goal difference tiebreaker.
El Tri will face the Group D runner-up in the Copa America Centenario quarterfinals on Saturday at Levi’s Stadium.
Venezuela will take on the Group D winner on Saturday at Gillette Stadium. The winner of the Venezuela quarterfinal will meet the winner of Thursday’s USA-Ecuador quarterfinal in the Copa America semifinals in Houston next Tuesday, June 21. Check out the Copa America Bracket.
