Toronto FC picked up a whole army of supporters after defeating the Montreal Impact in the Eastern Conference Championship on Wednesday night, with plenty of Portland Timbers supporters chiming in on Twitter to show their support for TFC in next weekend’s MLS Cup against their archrivals the Seattle Sounders.
Of course, the Timbers-turned-Toronto supporters aren’t motivated solely by vitriol for their northern rivals. They’ve got a legitimate connection to TFC, too, with former Portland captain Will Johnson looking to follow his 2015 MLS Cup win with the Timbers with another title in Toronto.
