TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: Transfer

Update (1/22): After announcing last week that Spanish playmaker Victor Vazquez was in the process of finalizing a move to Qatar, Toronto FC made official that they have transferred him to Al-Arabi SC.

Original (1/15): Toronto FC are in the final stages of transferring Spanish playmaker Victor Vazquez to a club in Qatar, the club announced on Tuesday.

The move – which is still pending a physical – will involve a transfer fee, though neither that information nor the identity of the destination club has yet been revealed.

Vazquez, who turns 32 this month, was one of the stars of TFC's all-conquering treble campaign in 2017 after arriving via a Targeted Allocation Money deal before the start of the season. Showcasing impressive creativity, vision and passing range, he scored eight goals and 16 assists in league play as the Reds won MLS Cup, the Supporters' Shield and the Canadian Championship.

He continued to be effective when healthy last season, notching eight goals and nine assists in 21 MLS appearances, but like many on Toronto’s roster, injuries took their toll and limited his impact.

Though they did manage to defend their Canadian Championship trophy and thus will take part in the 2019 Concacaf Champions League, TFC missed the Audi 2018 MLS Cup Playoffs and face a range of questions as they enter the new year with a new general manager in Ali Curtis.
