Mexican attacker Angel Reyna was formally released from his contract with Chivas de Guadalajara last week, paving the way for the 31-year-old to make a potential move to Major League Soccer.
According to an ESPN Deportes report, Reyna, who hasn’t played a first-team match since falling out with Chivas last August, is now looking at MLS as a potential landing spot.
Capped 15 times by the Mexican national team, the attacking midfielder moved to Chivas in May 2014 from fellow Liga MX club Veracruz for a transfer fee reported to be around $6 million. Despite being one of the highest-paid players in Mexico, Reyna didn’t have a huge impact in Guadalajara, scoring just one goal in 29 Liga MX appearances with Chivas before falling out with the club last summer.
Reyna turned pro in 2005 with San Luis, and has spent his entire career in Mexico, playing for Necaxa, Club América, Monterrey, Pachuca and Veracruz in addition to his time with Chivas. A member of the Mexican team that won the 2011 CONCACAF Gold Cup, he last played for El Tri in their 2-0 World Cup qualifying loss at the US in September 2013.
