Clint Dempsey continued his long, steady climb towards the top of the US national team's all-time scoring chart on Tuesday, netting from the penalty spot to open the scoring in his team's 4-0 Copa America Centenario thrashing of Costa Rica at Soldier Field in Chicago.
It was the 50th career USMNT goal for "Deuce," who, fittingly, opened his international account at the same venue 11 years ago in a 2-1 friendly loss to England. He's now earned 126 caps for his country, and sits second on the program's list of top scorers, seven behind his former teammate Landon Donovan.
