USA vs. Mexico match attracts nearly 4.5 million viewers on Wednesday, most watched USMNT game of year

Another batch of sky-high television ratings have underlined the burgeoning popularity of the USA vs. Mexico border rivalry yet again, as Wednesday's 2-0 friendly win for the US national team drew a combined audience of 4.5 million viewers on Fox Sports 1, UniMás and Univision Deportes.

According to Awful Announcing, the latest episode of “dos a cero” ranks as the most-watched soccer game in the short history of FS1, which launched in August 2013, with an audience of 806,000. UniMás' broadcast drew 2.76 million sets of eyes. Some 890,000 tuned in on Univision Deportes.

The sellout occasion at San Antonio's Alamodome, decided by goals from Jordan Morris and New England Revolution striker Juan Agudelo, was the most-watched US national team match (men's or women's) of the year by some margin, and earned more than triple the viewers of the USMNT's 2015 opener at Chile on Jan. 28. World Soccer Talk reports that Wednesday's match outdrew the Chicago Blackhawks vs. Nashville Predators NHL Stanley Cup playoff game airing at the same time.
