TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS:Trade
The Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday made official the rumored trade to acquire veteran forward Kei Kamara from the New England Revolution.
In exchange for the services of Kamara, a double-digit goalscorer in each of his last three MLS seasons, the Whitecaps sent New England their natural first-round pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, as well as a conditional second-round pick in the 2020 MLS SuperDraft.
Per the conditions of the agreement, if Kamara is re-assigned to another MLS team prior to the 2018 roster freeze, New England will receive Vancouver's 2020 natural first-round SuperDraft pick as well as its 2019 natural first-round pick. In addition, should Vancouver permanently transfer Kamara outside of MLS prior to the 2018 roster freeze, New England and Vancouver will evenly split the clubs' share of the transfer proceeds.
Kamara, 33, ranks 10th on the league's all-time scoring list with 98 goals. In 2017, he featured in 31 games (27 starts) for the Revolution, picking up 12 goals and 5 assists. Kamara said in October he had never completely settled in with the Revolution since joining the club from Columbus Crew SC in the middle of the 2016 campaign.
In 2015, Kamara scored a career-high 22 goals to help Crew SC reach MLS Cup, but departed the following season amid an intra-squad controversy. Vancouver had been named as a potential landing before he was ultimately traded to the other coast.
