AT&T Goal of the Week: Week 19
Sebastian Giovinco and David Villa turned in two of the most notable performances of the season on Sunday, with Toronto FC’s Italian playmaker notching a hat trick and New York City FC’s Spanish star bagging a brace in the wild 4-4 draw between the two sides at Yankee Stadium.
Now, both Designated Players are nominated for MLS AT&T Goal of the Week for Week 18.
Giovinco is up for the award for his hat-trick-completing third goal, a lovely scooped finish over NYCFC ‘keeper Josh Saunders in the 43rd minute of Sunday’s contest. Villa is nominated for his marvelous opener, a bending free kick that he curled inside the left post in the 17th minute.
Giovinco and Villa will face stiff competition for the weekly honor, with Montreal midfielder Marco Donadel nominated for his outrageous long-range strike against Columbus Crew SC, Chicago Fire forward Jason Johnson in the running for his stoppage time winner against the Seattle Sounders and New York Red Bulls midfielder Lloyd Sam up for his finish of a well-worked team goal against the New England Revolution.
