Brenner Souza da Silva, known as Brenner, was acquired by FC Cincinnati on Feb. 9, 2021 as a Young Designated Player via transfer from Brazilian club São Paulo FC.
2022 (FC Cincinnati): Had a breakout season where he was co-led FC Cincinnati in goals and earned the Golden Boot delivered by Allegiant with Brandon Vazquez … scored 18 goals and added six assists in 29 regular season appearances … alongside Vazquez, the duo became the first pair of teammates in MLS history to each score at least 18 goals in a single season … the pair finished the year with 36 goals and 14 assists between them … his nine goals in September and October tied for the most in any five-game stretch in a single season in MLS history and helped propel the Orange and Blue to a 3-1-1 mark to close the season, while clinching the club’s first Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs berth … he was named MLS’s Player of the Month for September/October … scored the first hat trick in FC Cincinnati history on July 29 against New York City FC … netted another hat trick on Sept. 10 against the San Jose Earthquakes, and then again on Decision Day on Oct. 9 at D.C. United … Brenner became the sixth different player in MLS history to score at least three hat tricks in a single season and the first since Josef MartÃnez in 2018 … three times was named the MLS Player of the Week (Wks. 17, 30, 34), each coming after his hat trick, and was recognized five times on the MLS Team of the Week … finished the season with the club record for career goals (26) … three times scored in three consecutive games (June 24-July 3; July 30-August 13; September 10-27), the most such occurrences in club history … led the team with four game-winning goals, his first coming with his first goal of the season on June 24 vs. Orlando City SC in the 1-0 win.
2021 (FC Cincinnati): Started and appeared in 33 of the 34 games played in 2021 … set club-highs for goals in a season (8), shots in a season (67) and shots on goal in a season (24) … scored within the first 15 minutes of his first MLS game when he did in the season opener at Nashville SC (April 17) from the penalty spot … returned to the scoresheet when he scored the first brace in the club’s MLS history at CF Montréal (July 17) … also tallied an assist in the game, the first of two consecutive games where he had an assist (July 21 vs. Atlanta) … scored vs. Orlando City SC (Aug. 7) in a 1-1 tie … two games later scored at New England Revolution (Aug. 21) … scored the game-winner against Toronto FC (Sept. 11) in a 2-0 win … scored in the next home game against New York City FC (Sept. 18) … wrapped up his scoring total vs. Nashville SC (Oct. 27) when he scored his second penalty kick of the season … was named to the MLSsoccer.com 22 Under 22, presented by BodyArmor, where he was ranked the No. 14 player in the list of top players under 22 across MLS.
OUTSIDE MLS: Made his professional debut in 2017 with São Paulo FC, where he four appearances, including two starts, scoring one goal in the Série A … the forward has made 61 career appearances, scoring 24 goals and adding four assists, across all competitions in four professional seasons in Brazil … when acquired by FCC had been in the midst of a breakout season as a regular starter for the Tricolor.
INTERNATIONAL: Has made 18 appearances at the U17 level for Brazil … featured for Brazil’s U-17s during the 2017 U-17 World Cup in India as well as the 2017 South American U17 Championship in Chile. In total, the forward earned 18 caps and scored six goals across all competitions with Brazil’s U17s.
