Career Summary

The Mexican center-back joined Minnesota United after four years at CF Pachuca. In his four seasons at Pachuca, Tapias made over 70 game appearances, scoring two goals, in both the Copa MX and Copa MX Apertura contests. Tapias was on the roster for the international friendly between Pachuca and Minnesota United in September of 2019.

During the 2023 season, Tapias appeared and started in 32 of the 34 regular-season matches. He scored his first MLS/MNUFC goal against the Colorado Rapids on March 18, 2023, when he put away a free kick with a header for the game-winning goal. The 27-year-old recorded his first assist in the U.S. Open Cup tournament. Tapias became an integral part of the Minnesota backline, alongside his center-back partner Michael Boxall.

He joined the Pachuca youth system at age 11 and progressed through their youth squads. He made his professional debut in 2016, when Tapias was loaned to Ascenso MX side Mineros de Zacatecas. He made 46 appearances in his two seasons on loan with Zacatecas before returning to Pachuca in 2018. Internationally, Tapias was a part of the Mexican youth national teams.

Tapias prefers to go by Micky and is joined in Minnesota by his wife, Leidy, and daughter, Regina.
