Brad Guzan ran away with the MLS Save of the Week honor for Week 32, crushing the competition to win the award by a huge margin.
The Atlanta United goalkeeper took home a whopping 76 percent of the vote for his stunning save in the Five Stripes’ 0-0 draw at the New York Red Bulls last Sunday.
New York defender Damien Perrinelle started the chance, quickly playing a free kick to a streaking Sacha Kljestan on the left edge of the box in the 65th minute of the contest at Red Bull Arena. The veteran midfielder played a low cross behind the Atlanta backline to setup Bradley Wright-Phillips for what looked like a sure tap-in, but Guzan robbed the English striker with an incredible reaction save.
Guzan demolished the Save of the Week competition. Portland goalkeeper Jeff Attinella finished second with just 14 percent of the vote, 62 percentage points behind the US international. Houston’s Tyler Deric finished third with six percent of the tally, Vancouver’s Stefan Marinovic came in fourth with three percent of the vote and New York’s Luis Robles rounded out the top-five with one percent.
Atlanta and Guzan will return to action on Sunday, when they’ll host Toronto FC in front of an MLS record crowd in a Decision Day presented by AT&T clash at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (4 pm ET; TSN4 in Canada, MLS LIVE in the US). Atlanta are currently in fourth in the East. They’ll clinch second-place in the conference and avoid the Knockout Round with a win and a loss or a draw by both Chicago and NYCFC.
