The final regular-season edition of the AT&T Goal of the Week features a back-to-back champion, a rare feat for a player whose team will be hoping it’s a positive omen for their own prospects of a successful title defense.
With his sixth goal of the 2019 league campaign, Atlanta United’s Julian Gressel has marched to his second straight GOTW prize, as his low scorcher vs. the New England Revolution on Decision Day presented by AT&T reaped 62.58% of the vote for another comfortable victory. Gressel also won the Week 30 Goal of the Week poll, earning 74.36% in that race.
It’s good news for both Gressel and the Five Stripes, who will look to defend their 2018 MLS Cup triumph starting with a first-round rematch with the Revs set for Oct. 19 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium (1 pm ET | Univision, TUDN in US; TSN, TVAS in Canada).
MLS Golden Boot presented by Audi winner Carlos Vela finished second in the Week 31 GOTW poll with 16.42%, followed by Portland’s Sebastian Blanco at 14.4%, Zlatan Ibrahimovic at 5.09% and Toronto FC maestro Alejandro Pozuelo at 1.51%.
