The LA Galaxy added the captain of the US Under-17 national team at last year’s World Cup to their professional system Monday, announcing that 18-year-old defender Hugo Arellano signed with the club’s USL affiliate LA Galaxy II.
Arellano, who was on the US Under-20 team that won the NTC Invitational earlier this month, had been committed to play college soccer at UCLA.
His signing is the latest in a remarkable string of Galaxy academy players joining the club’s professional teams, with the Norwalk, California native becoming the 10th academy product on LA Galaxy II and the 16th academy alum across LA’s MLS and USL rosters.
