FC Cincinnati forward Fanendo Adi was stopped for speeding and cited for Operating a Vehicle Impaired (“OVI”) early Sunday morning by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Adi will undergo an assessment by MLS’ Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health (“SABH”) and will not be eligible to participate in any competition or team activity until that assessment is complete, he is cleared for participation by the SABH Program doctors and Major League Soccer completes its investigation. Major League Soccer will remain in close communication with FC Cincinnati, local law enforcement, and the MLS Players Association during this investigation.
FC Cincinnati have released the following statement on Tuesday:
“Early Sunday morning, Fanendo Adi was stopped for speeding and cited for Operating Vehicle Impaired (“OVI”) by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. FC Cincinnati takes these matters very seriously and upon learning of the incident, immediately reached out to Major League Soccer and local authorities. Per the MLS CBA, Fanendo will be assessed through Major League Soccer’s Substance Abuse and Behavioral Health (SABH) Program. He will be unavailable for all team activities until the assessment is complete and he has been cleared to return by SABH program doctors. In addition, MLS will undertake an independent review of the circumstances surrounding Fanendo’s citation, working closely with the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The club will have no further comment until that investigation is complete.”
