FC Dallas and Chivas USA meet for the second time this season as the Western Conference clubs face off in an Independence Day clash in Frisco. FC Dallas recorded their second dramatic comeback in a row last weekend, getting a late, late goal for a 2-2 draw at Philadelphia Union. Chivas USA snapped their club-record losing run, but still saw their winless streak extended as the New England Revolution scored a late goal for a 1-1 draw in Carson.

• The teams are meeting for the second time this season. Goals from Juan Agudelo, Oswaldo Minda and Giovani Casillas answered a David Ferreira strike as Chivas USA ran out 3-1 winners, March 10 in Carson.

• The Chivas victory snapped a seven-game FCD undefeated streak in the all-time series. Chivas USA had last defeated FC Dallas 2-0 on April 25, 2009 at The Home Depot Center. FCD was 4-0-3 in the seven meetings in between.

• FC Dallas took the lead in the 57th minute. David Ferreira capped a mazy dribbling run down the left flank and through a few Chivas defenders with a stunning right-footed shot from a difficult angle, past goalkeeper Dan Kennedy.
• But Chivas scored their first goal of the season 11 minutes later when Juan Agudelo latched onto a pass, worked his way past defender Matt Hedges in the box and unleashed a left-footed strike that found the back of the net.
• Chivas hit for a second in the 76th minute. FCD defender George John couldn’t control a pass deep in his own zone and Oswaldo Minda cleaned up the turnover, buried the go-ahead goal with a right-footed shot past FC Dallas goalkeeper Raúl Fernández.
• Chivas USA capped the first victory for new manager José Luis Sánchez Solá when Giovani Casillas cashed in on a breakaway 3-on-1 opportunity in stoppage time, beating Fernández with a calm shot to the near post.

FC Dallas posted an improbable comeback for a second consecutive week, again getting a late, late equalizer for a 2-2 draw with Philadelphia Union on Saturday afternoon at PPL Park. FCD are in a tie for second place in the Western Conference with 30 points from 17 matches.
LAST MATCH
• Union took the lead in the 20th minute in familiar fashion, when center back Amobi Okugo leaped to head home a Sheanon Williams long throw-in.
• But FC Dallas struck back just three minutes later with a header of their own from a young center back, when Walker Zimmerman scored with a glancing backward header from a long free kick from Michel.
• FC Dallas were reduced to 10 men in the 68th minute when Dallas midfielder Je-Vaughn Watson received a second yellow card. Union then took advantage in the 87th minute when Aaron Wheeler headed home a cross from Williams.

• But after Williams cleared a Blas Pérez shot off the line in stoppage time, Pérez headed home the tying goal deep into added time when Union goalkeeper Zac MacMath failed to hold a free kick delivered into the box.
• FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman made three changes to the team that scored two late goals for a 2-2 draw with Sporting Kansas City in Frisco. Jair Benitez, Walker Zimmerman and Blas Perez came into the team, in place of Zach Loyd, George John and David Ferreira.

• FC Dallas scored the tying goal in the 90th minute or later for a second consecutive game, and for a fifth time this season snatched points with a goal after the 87th minute, pulling out two wins and three draws.
• “The strategy was to put numbers up. Even our goalie went up. We knew it was going to be the last play so we had to give it our all,” said Hyndman. “Blas has an eye for the goal and he handles pressure extremely well. He is a good player for us and it shows what he can do.”
• Blas Perez scored the fourth-latest goal in MLS history when he netted the equalizer in Philadelphia. But it’s the second latest goal in Dallas club history: Chad Deering scored in the 99th minute for a 1-1 tie with Columbus, May 25, 2002.
• “I’m just glad we could get the result and I like that the team showed spirit and fight to be able to do good even though we were a man down,” said Perez. “ … The month of June has been really tough for us with injuries, sending offs and now the Gold Cup coming up but we are just going to work hard to have a better July and we are aiming to keep our form and even improve.”
• Rookie Walker Zimmerman scored for a second consecutive game – his first professional goals. He was making his second league start of the season, the first coming May 25 vs. San Jose.
• “It’s always frustrating to give up goals on set pieces but it felt great to get a goal right back,” said Zimmerman. “There was definitely a little emotion on that equalizer but it’s good to get that frustration behind you.”
• With right back Zach Loyd injured along with regular center back George John, Jair Benitez returned from suspension and moved to the right side of the back line, with Michel holding down left back for a second consecutive match.
• “We just had a heartbreaker the other night against Portland [in the US Open Cup quarterfinals]. To play guys with heavy legs, with injuries, we left Zach Loyd at home, we left George John at home, I think it shows a lot about the character,” said Hyndman. “June hasn’t been a great month for us, but what June has done is it’s shown our best character.”
• While David Ferreira did not start after four consecutive matches in the first XI, he still came on for the final 34 matches and contributed an assist for a second consecutive game.
CHIVAS USA
Chivas USA put an end to their long losing skid, but still saw their winless run stretched to 12 games, as the New England Revolution came back for a late 1-1 draw Saturday evening at StubHub Center. Chivas USA sit in ninth place in the Western Conference with 12 points from 16 matches.

• Chivas took the lead in the 18th minute. Jorge Villafaña headed a half-clearance back to the box where Tristan Bowen pushed the ball to the side, allowing Laurent Courtois to smash a volley from outside the box that took a deflection on its way to the back of the net.

• But the Revolution hit for the leveler two minutes from full time. A cross from Diego Fagundez on the right found its way all the way to the back post, where Chad Barrett bundled it over the line.
• Chivas USA head coach José Luis Real made three changes to the team that fell 1-0 to the LA Galaxy at StubHub Center. Laurent Courtois, Marky Delgado and Jorge Villafana all came into the team, in place of Oswaldo Minda, Jose Rivera and Jose Correa.

TEAM NEWS
• Chivas USA put an end to their club record-tying seven-game winless streak in the draw. Chivas is still winless in 11 league games, tied for the second-longest in club history.
• “I’m very happy to have seen the face of every Chivas USA player, because they all came into the locker room with angry faces because we had the score to leave home with a victory and we let it go,” said Chivas head coach Jose Luis Real. “But I also have to recognize that the opponent had a better second half than us.”
• Said goalkeeper Dan Kennedy: “A tie's a good step forward. It was a real building block. All in all, to take into consideration in three, four weeks now we've completely remodeled this team in terms of formation and tactics. You can tell that we're adjusting. We're improving on our tactics.”
• Laurent Courtois made his first start since March 10 and scored his first goal of the season. But the following day, Courtois became one of three players released by Chivas USA, along with midfielder Miller Bolaños and defender Joaquín Velázquez, while Giovani Casillas has been recalled by CD Guadalajara from his loan.
• Homegrown Player Marky Delgado made his first career MLS start, inserted into the center of midfield. It was his third consecutive league appearance.
• After not appearing in the first two games with José Luis Real in charge, Bobby Burling was set to enter the New England late off the substitutes’ bench. But instead, José Rivera came on for Tristan Bowen.
• “When they put in four attacking players, my intention was to have five defenders to annul those attacking rival players. But then we were told that there was one of our players with some discomfort in the midfield or front line. We had two players that could have possibly needed to be subbed out, not in the defense,” said Real. “So we were forced to keep Burling from entering the match and leave Borja as central defender, which was the position that Burling was suppose to cover. In that moment, the backline was Borja, de Luna, Vilchez, Delgado, and Soto.”
• Chivas USA hit the road for a three-game trip beginning with the FC Dallas match, continuing on to Montréal and Philadelphia. Chivas has lost five consecutive away matches since their only road win of the season, a 4-1 win at Chicago on March 24.
• “I think you can see that in the first half we had a lot of the ball and we were definitely creating more chances than them on goal. It was a real building block. Now it’s about putting not just 45 minutes of that play together but 90,” said Kennedy. “I’m pretty happy with the performance; obviously the result is heartbreaking just because you give up a goal late in the game. The guys have to keep their heads up because we have a big road trip coming up.”
• Chivas USA made a major pickup in advance of the secondary transfer window opening, signing US international defender Carlos Bocanegra. Bocanegra has been on loan to Racing de Santander in Spain from Scottish side Rangers FC.
• “I was ready to move anywhere in MLS,” Bocanegra said. “Chivas came in and said it was important to sign with them. They're looking to turn things around, so hopefully this sends a good message. It had nothing to do with being in my hometown. It's awesome that it's an hour from my house, but that wasn't actually the thought at all. It just ended up working like this.”
